BACKGROUND AND BOUNDARY OF THE DIVISION
Before 1981, Batticaloa District had seven (07) AGA’s Divisions with Manmunya North, Manmunai Pattu, and Katankudi as one Divisional Administrative Unit, which was later divided into separate Divisional Secretariats for ease of administration.
Manmunai North Divisional Secretariat lies in the central part of the Eastern belt of the Batticaloa District. In the North, the division is bounded by the Eravur Pattu Divisional Secretariat and the Bay of Bengal; in the West, it is bounded by the lagoon; in the South, it is bounded by the lagoon and the Kattankudy Divisional Secretariat; and the entire East is bounded by the Bay of Bengal.
